(1R)-(-)-1-methylpropylamine is used to prepare (R)-(−)-sec-butylbis(2-hydroxyethyl)amine, an intermediate for the synthesis of aminodiphosphine ligands. It can also be used as a model compound in the study or singlet-tripler transitions in cicular dichroism, or as a substrate in the demonstration of the stereochemistry of Mitsunobu reaction to synthesise secondary amines.
